Sargis Muradyan

Sargis Muradyan (in English language sources and auctions often spelled differently: Sargis Muradian, Sarkis Muradyan, Sarkis Muradian. Arm. Սարգիս Մուրադյան, rus. Саркис Мурадян, 1927, Yerevan, Armenia – 2007, Yerevan, Armenia) one of the foremost Soviet Armenian artists of the 20th century.
 
Honored Painter of the Armenian SSR (1961), Honored Artist of the Armenian SSR (1972), People’s Artist of the Armenian SSR (1977). Laureate of the USSR State Prize (1976).
 
1945 — graduated from the Art College after F. Terlemezyan.
1951 — graduated from Yerevan Art and Theater Institute.
Since 1954 — member of the Union of Artists of the Armenian SSR.
Since 1961, he has been teaching at the Yerevan State Art and Theater Institute, Professor.
1964-1968 — Chairman of the Art Council of the Armenian SSR Art Foundation.
1982-1987 — Chairman of the Union of Artists of the Armenian SSR.
Since 1983, corresponding member of the Academy of Arts of the Russian SSR.
1985-1990 — Deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the Armenian SSR.
1990-1995 – Deputy of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia
Since 1995 he has been teaching at the Yerevan State Academy of Fine Arts, Honored Professor. Member of the Academic Council.
 
In 2014, through the efforts of the artist’s daughter, the Sargis Muradyan Gallery was opened in Yerevan, which operated until 2023.
 
In 2023, the Art Embassy Gallery committed to continue the work of preserving and promoting the heritage of the great Armenian artist.
